1960 TOUR DE FRANCE AUTOMOBILE : FERRARI 250 GT # 2165 /GT
After their 1959 experience, Jean Thépenier wrote a note to John "Johnny" Simone explaining the history of the new FERRARI :
This note was a résumé of the september 1960 discussion 1960 with the first owner Mr Marchand, a very good Maserati customer.
" André Simon had the possibility to buy a new 1961 FERRARI, he received a discount of " few thousand liras" off the normal price. He also received sponsorship from SHELL oil company for the Tour de France departure with his new car.
The price of the car was 5,404,000 L.
Simon financed 880,000 L (3 sponsorships of 150,000 L, 300,000 L of SHELL sponsorship, and 130,000 L with his own money). Thépenier financed 4,300,000 L with the 1959 # 0973 /GT FERRARI as trade-in.
After the accident in september, the FERRARI was in a complicated situation as it had 3 owners, Thépenier, Simon, and Marchand.
Thankfully, a suitable solution was found, a trade-in with the # 101.1113 Maserati for Mr Marchand, and Thépenier wanted Simon to give him back the money lent the 24/4/1958. But in the end he sold his share to Simon and went back to his Maserati Business.
The FERRARI could be repaired in peace ...
